Diffusion tubes (Annual measurements)
When the ‘Diffusion tubes’ are selected in the control map layers, below this map, you will see annual mean concentration of nitrogen dioxide measured at a network of non-automatic monitoring sites across Oxfordshire. Due to the high density of locations, sites are clustered to show an average at the default zoom level. Use the zoom function to drill down and see the results for individual locations. Use the year selector to scroll through years to see how air quality has improved across Oxfordshire with time.
Automatic monitors (Live measurements)
When the 'Automatic monitors' are selected in the control map layers, below this map, you will see the current pollution levels being measured at the seven automatic monitoring sites across Oxfordshire. Click on a marker to find out more details about each site.
This interactive tool allows you to explore annual mean modelled ambient air quality concentration data for NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide), PM10 and PM2.5. This data come from Defra's national Pollution Climate Mapping modelling.
Background concentrations represent pollution levels that are not influenced significantly by any single air pollution source or street, but rather by the integrated contribution from all the existing air pollution sources over a wider area.
Roadside concentrations are calculated at a distance of 4m from the kerbside, so they provide an estimate of the increased air pollution concentrations that are associated with nearby traffic. In these maps they are calculated for all urban major road links (A-roads and motorways) throughout Oxfordshire.
These modelled maps are used to assess the UK’s compliance with the Air Quality Standards Regulations, and to locate hot spots for air pollution.
If you use the year selector in the top right-hand corner of the map you can scroll through years to see how air quality has improved across Oxfordshire since 2001.
